POLITICOS – a Non-Party Political Discussion Group
Programme for Autumn 2011:
Friday 21st October: “England After The Riots.”
Debate and discussion led by:
Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education.
Lord Maurice Glasman of “Blue Labour” fame.
Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat member for Carshalton and Wallington.
Chairman – Peter Henley from the Politics Show.
All our speakers have a distinctive and unique perspective to offer on July’s riots. Tom Brake’s view of “restorative justice” differs fundamentally from that of Michael Gove. Maurice Glasman is certain not to just give the Party line.
Friday 11th November: “Is Our Parliament Fit for Democracy?”
Sylvia Heal, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
Sylvia Heal resigned as an MP in 2010. Her experience in The House gives her a unique opportunity to comment and lead a discussion on issues such as MPs’ expenses, how effective Parliament is at monitoring and controlling the executive and how it might become more responsive to the needs of the country.
Both Meetings at Camberley Working Men’s Club, Obelisk Way, just off the High Street starting at 7.30pm
The Future: We are working on debates on Transport and Europe for the New Year.
Politicos – supporting the Surrey Heath community.
Following the success of our quiz in support of The Mayor and the CAB, Politicos is supporting The Mayor’s Charities this year through a Christmas Community Fair on Saturday 3rd December from 1 pm. Can you help with a stall or just attending? As well as things to buy, the day will include poetry from Surrey Heath children and performances from local artists.
